October is a big month for me – it is my birthday month. And it is a significant milestone birthday for me! With this coming to terms with my adult age stage of life, I really want to step up my home decor. My fiance and I have been lucky to have inherited a lot of home furniture over the years following our college days. We have also added a few affordable items along the way. But now it’s time to donate those items that aren’t truly us, and plan to curate the look and feel we really desire in our home.
We rent a single family home now (see it here > Making a Rental Home Sweet Home). But we are hopeful to soon own our first home. When that time comes, the most important pieces for a couple’s first home will be the furniture in use most. Which is why I’m dreaming of a lush, moody master bedroom. My mood board for our future bedroom is full of greys and dark blues, with accents of gold, white marble and lush velvet.
I selected the bed frame first. It’s the biggest piece, we’ll use it the most – therefore it will have the biggest design impact on the space. That’s why I am thinking of a neutral-toned upholstered bed frame. So that the other pieces like art and rugs can play the part of layering on interest, color and textures. This simple gray bed frame will hopefully never go out of style – the surrounding smaller pieces can be updated (if/ when needed) for a fresh look.
From the selections of the tie-dye like rug and wall art you can see I am drawn to swirls of moody, dramatic blue hues. Pair that with touches of white marble and soft matte gold and I am a happy girl!
I hope this mood board gets your creative juices flowing. All Modern offers a great online showroom to shop & bring your vision to life.
