Hess Collection Winery & Art Museum

I’m so lucky that I got the chance to spend time in the Napa valley recently, with one of my most dear girlfriends. We spent a lot of time researching spots that we wanted to visit and curated an amazing itinerary. I’ve been slow to sift through all our amazing pictures, but I can’t help but want to share our experiences to help others in their Napa planning! One memorable stop on our list was Hess.

The Hess Collection winery is short drive from downtown Napa in a picturesque spot, down a narrow winding road. Its surrounded by wooded hills feeling far removed from the valley center. Hess Collection is known just as much for its contemporary art collection as it is for its wine. The space has 3 floors of art, the largest contemporary art collection displayed at any of the Napa based wineries. Hess made our list of musts since we could taste and explore the art galleries.

Tours of the art galleries are self-guided. The collection his highly eclectic; examples include a typewriter with real flames coming out of it.

Hess offers a great array of grape varieties, wine styles and price tiers. The entry-level tasting experience ($25) allowed us to pick four wines to enjoy while chatting with the bartenders in their standing tasting room. We even got to taste the grapes themselves here. I was pleasantly surprised by how sweet and fruity some varieties were.
