Handmade Fall Decorations

Fall leaves

It’s almost that time of year! That is the time to welcome fall into your home with rustic pumpkins, leaves, gords and other seasonal items. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons. I love creating fall DIY decorations and festive displays.

I find therapeutic stress release in crafting. Tying that with my love for wine, I found the inspiration to upcycle wine bottles and other glass bottles into handmade decorations.  I realized how many bottles I was going through and throwing out. These creative painted wine bottle decorations make great vases, candle stick holders or they are great standing by themselves as decoration pieces.

For fall seasonal decor I’m using leaves and autumn colors in my DIY creations. Here’s a few DIY fall decoration ideas you can make with upcylced wine bottles and items found at the craft store.

Paint Splattered Easter Eggs

Paint Splattered Easter Eggs

Decorate your Easter Eggs in a unique & colorful way this year! Splatter them with paint! I love this alternative to dying Easter eggs because you probably already have the paint on hand, leftover from other projects. Just simply water down the paint a bit for the perfect splatter consistency. If its is too think you’ll have a hard time getting it to fling off the brush.

Valentine’s Day Decorations

valentines day craft

Happy February🌹! Whether you love or loathe the holiday, Valentine’s Day is an excuse to spread love ❤️ I’m excited to share a few handmade Valentine’s Day decoration pieces I’ve made to help celebrate! I am a true romantic, so I do love this holiday.

I made this LOVE painted bottle decoration set with Rustoleum’s metallic spray paint in gold, stickers, and upcylced kombucha bottles.

This rose gold roses set is upcycled Four Roses Bourbon bottles. I love the shape, glass color and roses detail on these glass bottles! I decided to spray Rustoleum’s copper metallic spray paint just over the raised roses emblem.

This piece vintage inspired piece is made from a spaghetti sauce jar. I used Rustoleum’s metallic in copper for the base and a Martha Stewart stencil and red pearl paint.

This piece is a little different, my first use of chalk paint. I used a light pink FolkArt® Home Decor™ Chalk Paint on an Orangina glass bottle. It took about 5 coats to achieve a saturated finish. I used the pearl red Martha Stewart paint to freehand a large heart. I added the Be Mine detail with a Martha Stewart stencil and a Sharpie® Oil-Based Paint Marker, which I also used to freehand the arrow detail.

I found this fun heart topped mason jar at the Target Dollar Spot! I couldn’t resist it and had to have one. I choose not to paint it, but fill it with fun metallic Valentine’s themed pompoms by Recollections at Michaels.

While shopping at Michaels I of course found a few more treasures like these loose hearts and love arrow sign.

I updated my open display shelving with all these fun Valentine’s day inspired pieces.

DIY Glitter Calm Jars

DIY GLITTER CALM jAR

It’s a new year, and for me a time to learn let go of what doesn’t matter. If you’re like me you sometimes need methods to help calm and relax yourself. Mesmerizing and magical glitter calm jars provide a sensory escape. The swirling patterns created by glitter, water and clear glue are ideal to soothe and relax. To refocus and refresh an overwhelmed mind just shake the jar and watch as the glitter storm settles.

DIY craft

I made my own DIY version by upcylcing a butterscotch and curry glass jar. All I needed for the project was a paint brush, PPG Paints paint sample jar, loose glitter, clear glue and hot water. To begin I removed the jar’s labels, and scrubbed clean.  I painted the lids with my favorite purple hue of Violet Verbena, which is known as a mystic, calming color.

As those dried, I began combining the contents. The process is to fill the jar with warm water first then the glue, measuring about 1/5 of the container’s volume. Mix well then add in loose glitter slowly gauging how much more is needed for desired look. I used about 1 tablespoon of glitter per jar.

Here’s another way to make the same fun craft, just instead with glitter glue and food coloring.

Fun & Simple Halloween Costume Inspiration

Still stuck browsing for Halloween costume inspiration? In honor of the upcoming festivities I thought it would be fun to share a few throwbacks to my 0wn favorite costumes. My problem is that I always want to dress up multiple times and can’t just stick to just one look. Fall has always been my favorite time of year, especially Halloween. I love craving pumpkins, decorating and dressing up. I love planning my outfits, mostly using everyday clothing items mixed with a few more costumey accessories or props. As a dance for the majority of my life, I’ve also been known to use an old recital costume. I hope these ideas help to spark your own imagination when planning your cheap, homemade Halloween costumes.
